My uncle brought this back from Saipan in 1945. Enterprising SeaBees had used fired Japanese artillery shell casings to create souvenirs. It's been used as a nut bowl, a planter, and an ashtray. It's 2.5" deep and weighs 4.5 lbs. Its onetime polished and lacquered finish is discolored. Japanese characters are stamped on the base.
