This is an excellent original WWII Japanese Army Officer's Shin Gunto Sword with a excellent original Tassle attached. It was acquired directly from the Veteran who brought it back from the war. It has been very well taken care of. The blade Tang is signed on both sides. It is signed KATSUMASA - SHOWA 18 (1943) - there also is the number 1285 stamped on the top of the tang (see pictures). Katsumasa is listed in John Scott Slough's book - Modern Japanese Swordsmiths 1868 - 1945 on page 80. The Minty Beefy Sharp Blade is in very good to excellent condition with no cracks, bends, rust. The Cutting Edge is 26 1/8". The copper Habaki is stuck in place and I will not force it off. The new owner can do this if they choose. The Tsuka (handle) the Wrap and mounts are in superb condition. The fittings on the handle have most of their original gilt finish intact. The Scabbard retains nearly all the original painted finish in excellent condition with the fittings also retaining most of the original gilt finish. The wood insert in the scabbard that protects the blade is in very good condition. The button on the handle and scabbard lock work very well when closed with a tight The Tsuba (hand guard) and the seppa (spacers) have all matching #90 stamped on them. The original gilt finish on the Tsuba is also in excellent condition. The Blue - Brown Tassle is very Minty and is attached to the handle. This is a very very nice example. THIS ONE WILL NOT DISSAPOINT! I will only ship to countries where it is legal!
