WWII Japanese Battle/Prayer FlagOriginal, Brought Back to US by 4th Marine Division Soldier Description: In Japan, it is customary for the soldier's friends and family to sign a battle flag that the soldier will carry into battle. This original Japanese silk flag was hand-signed in black ink with wishes, prayers and signatures. T is also a chop mark stamp in red ink. T are (2) cotton tie strings on one side of the flag. Guaranteed to be original, c.1939-1945. Provenance: This flag was brought back to the U.S. by a 4th Marine Division soldier. The auction includes the book, "The Fourth Marine Division in World War II" edited by Carl W. Proehl. The book has many photographs and text to support the provenance of this flag. Measurements: 39" x 26" Condition: The flag does show signs of wear, which only indicates it had been carried into battle with the soldier. Some of the dark spots may be tears or sweat stains from the soldier. T is a 1" tear (possibly the bullet hole w the soldier was shot?) and a few other small tears and blemishes. Please note: this is an authentic flag carried into battle during WWII. T are blemishes and signs of wear, which only add to the authenticity and collector value of the flag.
