Rare and Impressive early 20th Century Marine dress uniform made by The Kassan Stein, Co. in Washington D.C with tag dating September 6, 1935 worn by Lt. Colonel Joseph P. McCaffery. This is his uniform when he was a Lt in the 1930s. Uniform consists of navy dress blue wool trimmed in gold ribbon with gold metallic threaded ribbon work detail featuring the gold signature Marine buttons representing Land, Air and Sea with 12 stars, Eagle and anchor. Braided detachable gold cord embellishment on shoulders with button detail, exquisite golden ribbon work with braided knots and scrolls on sleeve cuffs. Interior is lined in a vibrant Crimson red silk with diamond stitched design, interior pockets and tie with cast silvertone belt and fleur de lis detail. Research shows that Lt. Colonel Joseph McCaffery (Commanding Officer of The 2nd Marine Raider Battalion – V Amphibious Corps) was posthumously awarded The distinguished Navy Cross by The President Of The United States for his actions of extraordinary in World War II United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism and distinguished service while in Command of the SECOND Marine Raider Battalion in action against enemy Japanese forces during the landing attack of the THIRD Marine Division (Reinforced), in the Cape Torokina Area, Bougainville Island, British Solomon Islands, on 1
