is a neat pair of bookends made from a pair of military Anti-Aircraft or other large military gun sights. I guess they might also be airplane gun sights. I’ve been pouring over images of WWII and Korean War-era artillery, AA and Naval deck guns looking for a match. So far, still no luck although I’ve seen several that are very close, especially the more round one. T is a large military base in Huntsville , home to Redstone Arsenal, the home of the Army Ordinance Corps, with a long heritage of supporting tank, artillery and missile technology. I imagine these could be from a production gun or one-off parts for a prototype. Perhaps they sat on some Colonel’s bookcase. Both parts are made from highly machined brass and are numbered. They measure about 8” high. The numbers are consecutive, I believe they are part numbers. Although the parts are very similar, the stamping of the numbers is slightly different, indicating they were made via separate processes or locations. Each sight has two machined arch-shaped slots in the bottom, which I believe were used for mounting. Just next to the part number on one is flaming ball symbol (seen stamped into the brass in the last photo) of the Army ordinance corps.
