An original World War Two letter including the envelope written by Corporal Hubert Luecke. The letter is dated Mar. 17, 1945. The letter has German writing at the top. In the letter he talks about visiting a German Concentration Camp. (Warning: The writing is very graphic.) The letter reads: Dear Lola & Thayer & Family Well I think it's about time I wrote and let you know what's going on. I've sure seen some sights this past week. I visited a German concentration camp and saw brutality and crudness in it's purest form. It's hard to realize that people or human being's so to speak can be so inhuman. In Germany I'd say dog's horses or even mules got better treatment that these prisoners (Political prisoners) I saw at least fifty bodies of dead men just beaten and tortured until unrecognizable. I would say that most of these victims had T.B. or would have died soon from malnutrition, so the beatings were utterly senseless. The camp itself is spread over a wide area with high barbed wire enclosures all around. The first thing I saw was a very crude scaffold where they hanged their victims. Whenever there was a hanging which was almost everyday the prisoners were all forced to gather in the yard to witness it. The barracks these poor souls lived in had no flooring and they had to sleep on filthy straw mattresses. Absolutely no attempt read more
