This collection of letters and postcards were from Private Paul Oros of the 2nd Battalion, 19th Infantry to his fiance in Bedford, Ohio. He was wounded May 13, 1945 in Mindanao in the Phillipines and died shortly tafter. This collection consists of 18 postcards from 1942 and 1943 (stateside), 35 letters from the Pacific theater, 9 letters marked deceased and returned to sender, and a host of other items that came with this collection including patches, buttons, a few love items such as a pin and bracelet, etc. Also included are two booklets sent home from the Pacific: 1) THE ROCK OF CHICKAMAUGA , NINETEENTH INFANTRY, 1861-1944 and 2) SOUVENIR OF THE LAND OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS from the US Army Forces in Australia. This soldier saw action in New Guinea and the Phillipines. He was sometimes frustrated and angry with attitudes on the homefront: "It's not too bad when a guy gets to fight these yellow rats. It makes me feel as though I am helping someone, but I sure don't like the attitude of the people back home about keeping a soldier in the army till he has a job. How can you get a job if you are in the army...".
