This Luftschwimmvest is the type worn by German fighter pilots. It is a rubberized canvas construction pneumatic flotation life vest. The vest has a central front vertical opening with two horizontal canvas closure straps positioned on the left breast panel with corresponding canvas reinforced securing rings positioned on the right breast panel. The upper left breast bladder has a vertical, rubber manual inflation tube. The manual inflation tube is held in place by a horizontal canvas loop, which places the mouthpiece near the wearer's mouth for ease of inflation. The bottom edge of the left breast bladder has a metal alloy and brass connecting port housing designed for the cylindrical pressurized air canister which would automatically inflate the bladders. The canister is present. The bottom edge of the life vest has a tapering, vertical canvas strap stitched to the reverse center with corresponding canvas reinforced securing rings positioned on the bottom edge of the front center which was intended to slip between the wearer's legs so the vest didn't slip upwards. The interior upper back panel of the vest has a spec label as pictured. The vest was made by Auergellschaft A.G. and is 11-42 dated. On the back panel the original wearer has inked his name. The bladders are a little stiff but the vest is generally in very good condition. It shows some age and has some stains. Three day inspection period. The buyer pays $20.00 for insured Priority shipping and handling in the USA. Shipping and handling is not refundable.
