Double your traffic. WWII M1 Flexible Bale Helmet In VG Condition With Good 1st Pattern Fiber LinerThis is an ORIGINAL WWII "flexible bale" M1 helmet as issued to and worn by GI's and Marines in WWII. It has the "seam" in the front and a light OD #3 ("khaki") chinstrap with steel hardware. The McCord Radiator-made shell has an "807-" lot number (see image below) and it retains the hard-to-duplicate ORIGINAL Ordnance Department paint finish, although flash photography washes out the olive drab shade. There is no discoloration of the paint on the inside of the shell (see image below). Other than some of the usual wear to the rim band and fraying of the right chin strap (see images below), the helmet is in very good used condition and is a true combat artifact. The helmet came with a Hawley-made fiber liner with the early-War rayon Riddell suspension and snap-in sweatband, which I believe advanced collectors refer to as "Type I". The liner has all internal parts, excepting the fragile permanently-attached liner chinstrap. The fragile chinstrap broke off and is included. Two of the rivets for the suspension pulled through the fiber and were repaired by the GI apparently in the field using twine (see close-up image of repairs). There is none of the usual wear to the twill fabric on the rounded front edge of the liner. Here's an opportunity read more
