Unbelievable find from a "Living" veteran of the 82nd Airborne 505th PIR! This map and about 50 more were saved by this veteran for the last 62 years. Never before have these been in a collection! This veteran was a Sergeant by the end of the war and had been involved in every action of the 82nd starting in North Africa, Italy, D-Day, Market Garden, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge & Germany. This auction is for a map that is titled: " MARCHE ". The GSGS number is: 4336. This was published by the War Office in 1943. The scale of this map is 1:100,000. Map measures approx. 36" x 26". On the Southern portion of this map you will find the area defended by the 101st Airborne during the Bulge. The standout is Bastogne, whose defenses were commanded by General Anthony McAuliffe. You will find on this portion of the map the area's of Noville, Bertogne, Longvilly, Houffalize along with many more recognizable engagment area's. For the historian of 82nd Airborne engagements you will find on this map: Trois Pont, Grand Halleux, Arbrefontaine, Basse-Bodeux, Vielsalm, The Salm River, Salm-Chateau, Burtonville, Beho, Regne, Their-du-Mont & Bovigny. The area of Vielsalm is part of the St. Vith region which was defended by the 82nd Airborne during the Bulge. Shown on this map is Trois Pont w Lt. Col.
