UP FOR SALE: WWII US Navy Mark 43 6x42 Binoculars
Made by the Square D Company in Flushing, NY circa 1943, these binoculars are recognized as the pinnacle of WWII binocular design. Marked "U.S. NAVY" and "AERO" these were used for spotting enemy planes, ships and submarines during the war. With an amazing 12 degree field of view and individually focused eyepieces, the binoculars are still desired for bird watching, spotting, etc. This specimen has very clear optics and the collimation is perfect; overall the binoculars are in very good condition. There are two small specks of dirt inside the right tube which are seen when looking through the tube backwards, one is against the glass up front and one is closer to the eyepiece but neither disturb your view when using the binoculars. I used a photographer's lint-free cloth to remove any dust/lint from the glass and I could not see any scratches on any of the four surfaces. The adjustment dials are all working properly; the left eyepiece focus knob turns with firm touch; the right with a little less pressure. The right eyecup has a small notch of rubber missing from it; there is corrosion on the shoulders of the body which is common when they were stored for long periods of time inside their original case (as this one was.) The original carry strap is attached to the binoculars and is in good shape. The case is in very good condition as well; it is SARD stamped and other than shelf wear its only defect is the broken shoulder strap. These have been in the family for a very, very long time and have just sat in the case. Because of their value I can't justify using them for football games and the like, so up for sale they go. I did some homework here on the internet so I could post an accurate listing but I'm not an expert or collector of binoculars. If you have specific questions as a collector, please send me a message and I will be more than happy to post the answers here. Tell me what you want to know and how to find the answer and I'll get back with you promptly! I will not answer questions about the reserve price. Domestic shipping will be via UPS and includes insurance for the final auction price. International shipping will be via USPS Large Flat Rate Box and buyer will be responsible for cost of shipment to their country and insurance of final auction price (which is mandatory.) The customs form will be accurately filled out. Thanks for looking! Give this great piece of WWII history a good home, won't you? :)
