WWII Navy Summer Flight Suit & Jacket - Size 36
This pair of items was donated to the Oregon Air & Space Museum, Eugene, OR. Since it duplicates other similar items in the museum’s collection, it has been deeded surplus and therefore is being offered for sale. Both items belonged to Ensign L. M. Cauble, USNR are fashioned from the typical, lightweight, Naval Summer Tan cloth. Both are size 36, according to their labels. Measurements for the flight suit are as follows: Armpit to armpit, 24”; Shoulder to arm cuff, 22”; Collar to waist, 17”; Waist circumference, 38”; Waist to leg cuff, 40”; and Crotch to cuff, 28”. Measurements for the flight jacket are: Armpit to armpit, 24”; Shoulder to arm cuff, 23”; and Collar to bottom hem, 25”. Regarding the Armpit to armpit measurements, keep in mind that both items have gussets in the back, thus increasing the measurement by an inch or two. We have also listed two other lots which undoubtedly belonged to Cauble as well. One of these is the pair of size Small Flight Boots (about a size 8 by my foot), and the other lot consists of 3 different flight helmets, one with avionics... all 3 being too small for my size 7 head. The overall (no pun intended) condition is Very Good, with a few spots of soil or stain here and there. The dark stain at the left shoulder of the flight suit may be ink... it being the most serious of what are otherwise pretty minor faults. Shipping weight for both items is in the 3-4 pound range, including plastic bag and packing material, and will be shipped Parcel Post, domestically. I welcome questions and/or comments.
