This is part of a small collection I bought from an older collector recently. The majority of his groups were purchased right from WWII veterans or their NOK via hotel buys. This is not put-together junk. I'm keeping a few of the groups myself, the rest....you can fight over. I will gladly accept a well-known M.O. as payment. This is the second best lot of all my auctions this week....an ID'd Pearl Harbor attack survivor uniform group with support paperwork!! This man graduated from college in 1939 and joined the navy in 1940. He was aboard the cruiser USS ST. LOUIS and on watch the morning of December 6th, 1941 (yes, the 6th) and was one of the lookouts that spotted what was believed to be sub periscopes just off the coast near Pearl!! This contact was reported to higher ups ashore and dismissed. Of course we all know what happened on December 7th!! The ST. LOUIS escaped serious damage that day and went on to make a marvelous name for herself in combat in the Pacific during WWII. Since he was a college graduate and was considered an enlisted man of great promise, our hero was made an officer candidate. He was mustered out as a Lt. j.g. in 1946 after service on several ships in both theatres of war. He remained in the US Naval reserve until the early 1960s and retired as a Lieutenant.
