I'm dramatically reducing the size of my personal collection and will be posting many items over the coming weeks, so please check out my other current auctions and keep your eyes peeled for new ones in the days ahead! This is one of several WWII flying helmets I'll be auctioning this week. It's a WWII RCAF leather flying helmet in its originally issued configuration, without the zip ear radio receiver pouches that were added by riggers in the field. A representative example of this helmet can be seen on page 226 of Mick Prodger's excellent reference for collectors "Vintage Flying Helmets." Although I cannot find any ink stamps inside, I would be very comfortable calling this helmet a size 2, or medium, even though it seems to run a bit larger based on how it fits on a standard headform. The helmet's condition is very solid all around. The color of the exterior leather is very nice -- a nice, rich chestnut. All snaps and fittings work as they should. The only defect of note is a few small scrapes on the upper part of the helmet. These are very minor, and not what I'd call detractive, but I point them out for accuracy. If you've been looking for a nice vintage WWII leather flying helmet that you can still wear today, consider this one!
