This is an authentic WWII Japanese "Kai-Gunto" Navy Officer's Katana Sword with its original handle and sheath - These are somewhat rare, as most WWII katanas were made for the Army officers, and many of the Navy katanas made went 'down with the ship' and were permanently lost - The six Japanese pictograms on the blade tang are the 'signature' of the blade-maker - That's about all I know about this sword, so please look over the photos carefully and place your bid - Overall length of the sword, sheathed, is 38+3/8" - Overall length of the blade, unsheathed, is 35+1/8" - The maximum amount of blade curve, taken from a line drawn from tip to tip, is 1" - The tang has a single hole thru which a dowel is placed to secure the guards and the handle to the blade -The blade is very sharp, with a few (very small) nicks along the edge - I am sure these could be removed with a professional polishing, but I have made no attempt to clean or sharpen it, as I preferred to keep the sword in its 'original - as found' condition - The blade measures 35-1/8" overall, the sharp edge measures 26" from the tip to w the tang begins - The back of the blade is approximately 1/4" thick at the tang and gradually narrows to about 3/16" thick about 5/8" from the tip - it then narrows sharply to the point -The scabbard and handle are made of wood, covered with read more
