Rare and complete set of 8 WWII lithographs of pencil sketches in the original folder that are in very good condition. The illustrated front of the folder says Sixth Army, Around Kyoto, Sketches of Kyoto, Japan, occupational headquarters for General Walter Krueger's Sixth Army, drawn by Sgt. Richard Vrooman, Sixth Army Public Relations Office. Reproduced by 650th Engineer Topographic Battalion.The sketches measure 10 1/4" x 8". The 1st sketch says-street scene, Kyoto, girl wearing mompei, wartime dress replacing the kimono. The 2nd is the Golden Pavillion (kinkaku-ji) About 540 years old. The 3rd is KIYOMIZU-Dera-Kyoto Shoro-Bell Tower-1607 A.D. The 4th is The Heian Shrine, Kyoto. Symbolizing the passing from earth to heaven. The 5th is Sammorri of the Nangenji Built in 1293-reconstruction in 1620. Ceilings and pillars are decorated with images and pictures of Buddhist Saints and symbols. The 6th is At Golden Pavillion Kinkaku-ji Kyoto The trees must be supported on stilts. The 7th is Scene in Kiymizu-Dera, Kyoto Student visiting the shrines. The 8th is Bridge in Jingo-ji Temple grounds. Temples here date back to 800 A.D. Also, the front folder says Daigo-ji Pagoda. Erected 951 A.D. by Emporer (that's how he spelled it instead of emperor) Murakami.The folder has indicated wear and slight foxing and tiny edge tears. Prints inside
