WWII SWORD WITH SCABBARD

I really don`t know much about this sword, except my father brought it back from the war, and it has been in my mother basement all this time. I am told by local town men that it is a samurai sword. the blade is 181/2 inches, and total lenght is 26 inches. the handle feels like soft wood, and the scabbard feels like hard rubber. the scabbard has a slight crack and some nicks, the blade is perfect, nice and sharp with no nicks or cracks
