HUGE Second World War map, perhaps intended as a Wall Map, measures 58" wide X 39" tall. Scale 1:6,336,000, titled "PLANNING MAPS / SCALE 1:6,336,000 / AUSTRALASIA". Originally developed and printed by U. S. Army Map Service (AMS) in July 1943, this is apparently the 1945 printing judging from the '6-45' that appears along with the first edition citation and the original print date of 1943 . Marked at top "For Use by War and Navy Department Agencies Only, Not for Sale or Distribution". Shows the Islands making up today's country of Indonesia including those that were colonies of the Netherlands, Great Britian, and Japan (Micronesia was a Japanese Mandate), Fuji Islands, the few U.S. islands like Wake. Also the Marshall islands, Iwo Jima and its sister islands, the southern tip of Okinawa (Naha), China from about Hong Kong south, all of South East Asia, the Philippines, and much of the northern half of Australia. Also many Island chains like the Solomons, and many others to numerous to list. Maps such as this were used for campaign planning during the Second World War by the allied forces, British, American, Dutch, etc. You can just about visualize Gen.
