This an Original WWII US Military Bayonet with scabbard for the M-1 Garand Rifle. Overall length of bayonet is 16" with the balde being 9 1/2 from hilt to tip. It appears from the blood groove that it is a cut down blade from the longer version. The handle is missing the grips and the hardware for clipping onto the lug and securing the hilt to the scabbard throat. T is an overall mild to moderate rust patina to handle and throat. The scabbard is nice. Not cracked and O/D paint to the fiberglass scabbard shows only minimal spots of wear. You can see the flaming bomb ordnance logo to the scabbard throat if you look closely but it is somewhat diminished by the patina. The blade is in very good shape. Has only slight evidence of sharpening and is not rusted but does show age staining. Has an outstanding maker mark to hilt "U C U. S. 1942" with the ordnance bomb (See Pic). ON the reverse side is a fainter logo that looks kind of like a couple of crossed cannon barrels or something (See Pic)? but hard to tell. Blade slides easily in and out of scabbard. With the right parts and TLC,this bayonet could easily be restored to outstanding condition and,with such a nice scabbard,would be worthy of the effort.
