Up for auction is a very hard to find, near-mint condition Army Air Force "bailout bottle", which was designed to give pilots the means to survive a parachute descent from high altitudes. This is a model H-1 bottle, which was introduced in 1941 and declared obsolete in 1945. This bottle is date-stamped June 1944. The H-1 could hold 1800 psi of air, or enough for about 10 minutes of breathing. The apparatus featured a manually-operated valve on top and a flexible tube ending in a "pipe stem" that the aviator held in his mouth. The canvas bottle pouch was either sewn onto the aviator's flight suit or tied onto the thigh using the attached straps. This example of the H-1 is in excellent condition. No issues to report anyw..The valve nob rotates freely. The gauge is intact. Also included is a khaki canvas storage pouch designed for the H-1. It, too, is in excellent condition. The original hose and pipe stem have been replaced to spec. The stem has not been drilled completely through to prevent this item's use as a lifesaving device , which it is not! I am selling this for display only, not for actual use .No vintage aviation collection would be complete without one of these, which are getting very difficult to find. Please be sure to check out my other auctions to see them and more vintage aviation items.
