WWII USN 55MM Anti-Aircraft Shell. From a Aircraft Carrier during the Pacific Campaign. My late Father was a Marine Corps Fighter Pilot, SPD's and Corsairs, he was carrier based during WWII in the Pacific. He brought a box of the these shells home. He always laughed and recounted stories how these anti- aircraft guns could not the side of a barn, I think he preferred taking on the enemy in his plane rather than ducking for cover when under attack on a flat top. This shell has a opening of 55mm or 2 3/16", it is 12" high. The base reads: U.S.N.G.F. 12 18, 6 Pdr. A.L.W M.K. The shell shows a small fracture / stress crack at the top rim running 3/4" down towards the base. T are two small old dents in the shell towards the top, 1/2" and 3/8" in size. A great piece of WWII history from a hard fought Pacific Campaign Victory, Thanks to Our Brave Fighting Men and Women. Please examine all photographs. Thanks
