This is a size 38R near mint condition woolen short overcoat. Mackinaw style. It was produced in 1942 by L. Brief and Bro. Inc., for the Philadelphia QM. Outside sleeve length is 25". Inside is 18". The only thing we found wrong with it is a small seam opening on the lining and a small tear in the same, see photos, bith can be stitched up. Both sleeves are in mint condition both exterior and interior. Most of these have cuff wear and torn sleeve linings, this one does not. T are NO moth holes and it retains its nap, see photos. The button holes and the stitching are are just as good now as they were when made. The best one of its kind we have ever seen and we have seen many. This coat, and other items we will be listing belonged to Major Richard P. Hawes, 0-909829, Infantry, later Military Intelligence, who served in the European theatre and then went on to work for Lucius D. Clay at SHAEF in Berlin. He was responsible for "digesting and evaluating intelligence" on the situation in Germany. Included is a photograph of Hawes wearing this overcoat in Germany. After his military duty Hawes served in the CIA w he retired after a long career. We will also be offering documents given to him and signed by Clay and John A. McCone, Director of the CIA, as well as other uniforms includng a mint chocolate brown service uniform and an Ike style read more
