This is a dog tag from the 17th Panzer Grenadier Division 'Gotz von Berlichingen', specifically Panzer Abteilung 17, the other regiments in this division being the 37th and 38th Panzer Grenadiers. This division fought at Carentan in Normandy (as in Band of Brothers) and later in Bavaria, w they eventually surrendered to American forces after 11 months of continuous fighting. The back of the tag is painted black, which I gather was not uncommon and designed to stop the metal of the tag reflecting. You can see on the tag that the letter T is actually a backwards letter J. I don't know why this was done. The zinc is pitted from use but not dug. I guarantee that this tag is 100% original WWII manufacture. All you have to do is hold it in your hand and you can tell. I know t are fakes out t, but this is not one of them. If you aren't happy, you can send it back within a week of receipt and I will refund your purchase price no questions asked. In accordance with Ebay policy, this listing does not show any offensive markings.
