A beautiful and rare WWII US Army or Army Air Force jacket made of bomb-proof horsehide and lined with OD wool. Sleeves are lined with OD cotton and have wool storm cuffs inside. Coat has corduroy-lined pockets, belt and neck flap. These jackets show up from time to time but this is the nicest one I have ever seen - it is the army equivalent (remember that the Air Force was technicaly under Army control until after the end of WWII) of the much more common US Navy coat which had a fur collar, red lining and was made of goatskin. This must have been an extremely expensive jacket to produce - t is a lot of leather and it is all very high quality. I imagine this coat must have been reserved for high ranking officers. I cannot find a spec tag anyw, but the materials are all US WWII, including the buttons, all of which are present and firmly attached. I have been told that the spec # on this garment was 371-P, but I am not sure. I do know that jackets like this were also sent to Russia as part of the Lend-Lease act and you can often find pictures of Soviet pilots and high ranking officers wearing coats like this. The leather is a seal brown in color showing minor wear only - a few scuffs but nothing that in any way affects the strength or wearability of this jacket. The wool lining is intact, no holes or odor. The pockets are clean. I read more
