Really exceptional, in my opinion, WWII WW11 WW2 U.S. M3 UTICA Fighting Knife with Original U.S. M8 B.M CO. (factory marked so on the metal throat on the front of the scabbard) Scabbard in mint condition. The scabbard has the correct bin number on the underside of the curved guard, and I'll include an old typed tag that was affixed to the back of the scabbard that says: " U.S. M8 BAYONET-KNIFE scabbard collection...B.M.CO. 1ST DESIGN - Mint " The blade is marked U.S. M3 - UTICA and it is also factory marked US M3 UTICA on the straight portion of the knife guard. The engraving, especially on the blade, is deep being nice and crisp, but was difficult for my camera to pick up because of the dark parkerizing. Note: The last picture of the knife guard showing the US M3 UTICA markings shows as being bright. This is simply camera flash glare, the guard retains most of the parkerized or blued finish, as does the blade and pommel. Nice tight stacked leather handle and the guard is nice and tight with no wobble. Nice sharp tip with no hits to it. I'm no expert on these old Army Airborne Paratrooper fighting knives, but this one does not appear to me have been resharpened, it appears to me to have the original factory edge and certainly most, if not just about all, of the parkerized or blued finish. I see no pitting or nicks on the blade. The pommel is factory marked with Ordnance Department Flaming Bomb. This knife is, in my opinion, about as nice as they get! In 1943 the US Army introduced the Mk 3 knife for hand-to-hand fighting. It was rapidly put into mass production with 2.5 million manufactured by 1944. The hilt and blade were influenced by the British Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife. The US Marines instead adopted the KA-BAR combat knife. I have also seen M3 fighting knives referenced as being used by French Foreign Legion paratroops in Indo-China. I've included quite a few pics so you can determine the condition for yourself. PayPal, Cashier's check, or money order on this item. Shipping costs will not exceed $9.00 for USPS Priority Mail and may be less depending on your location.
