What a great story. This is: "Nurses in Action - The Story of the Army Nurse Corps" by Colonel Julia O. Flikke A.U.S. Superintendent of the Army Nurse Corps. I've seen alot of things about this group of brave courageous women, but never the book. This first edition copy was published in 1943. She wrote that: "The purpose for which this book was written was to offer to young women everyw information about one of the most important, romantic and soul-satisfying proffessions open to women. In this world conflict when the hearts of the people are torn with anziety; when the sound of marching feet of the passing troops, the beat of the drum, the strains of martial music, stir the imagination and fill one with the desire to have a hand in alleviating suffering and bringing again order out of chaos, it seems opportune to narrate the circumstances of the birth of the Army Nurse Corps, its development, the dramatic circumstances under which the nurses sometimes serve, the opportunity for travel and the love of service so richly given." This 239 page hardback contains some wonderful photos. It is in good to very good condition. T is some yellowing of the pages and some spotting on first few pages. T is the previous owners name on inside of front cover. Outside of book looks really good. T is one small hole on side of spine. T definitely is some wear to edges and corners of dustjacket, but look at that photo on the front. Overall a great piece of history and a great read. Please email me with any questions.
