Extremely rare Committee Member Medal for the British and French War Commissions hosted by Mayor Mitchel of New York City in May of 1917 and attended by Gen. G.T.M. Bridges and Marshal Joffre. The gilt bronze medal hangs on a dark blue gros grain ribbon from a pin bar marked 'Committee' and features a profile bust portrait of Liberty surrounded by the slogan 'To Make the World Safe for Democracy - We Are One'. The reverse depicts and Indian offering a peace pipe to a Dutch settler, ship in background, beaver below, rimmed by 'New Netherland, Founded 1614'. Marked around the edge 'To Honor and Welcome the British and French War Commissions - May 1917'. The medal is 1 3/8" diam. 1 3/4" wide bar. 3 3/4" long overall. Very good condition, a bit of grime on obverse, small edge nicks. I guarantee absolute satisfaction or your money back.
