SIGNATURE: It is signed on top of the handle thumb rest with the sometimes used tiny Libbey mark as shown in my pictures. PATTERN NAME AND REFERENCE: Libbey simply called this cutting pattern Flute. It is shown on many smaller pieces in the large ACGA Libbey catalog reprints. AGE: According to Swan's book the signature used dates this piece to between 1906 and 1919. The section of the ACGA catalog w the same blank is shown is said to be circa 1909, which gives us a more precise probable date of manufacture. BLACK LIGHT TEST RESULTS: Both pieces confirm American Brilliant Period (approximately 1876-1916) MEASUREMENTS: 7-3/8" high and 7-3/8" wide on the bottom WEIGHT: It weighs a hefty 4.6 pounds. BLANK / GLASS CLARITY: The glass is bright and clear. The blank is blown. A matching blank can be seen on page 151 of the ACGA Libbey catalog reprints. This piece has engraving added to the Flute pattern that mine has. I included a picture of it and this particular piece is actually listed as a whiskey jug. CUTTING DETAILS: The deep panel type cutting is simple yet elegant. The bottom is cut flat and has a large polished pontil in the center. POLISHING QUALITY: The finish looks and feels crisp. CONDITION REPORT (ALWAYS VERY PICKY): The stopper fits very well and sits at what I would consider an appropriate level. T is a tiny number 3 scribed on the bottom of the plug and also on the side of the decanter next to the top handle attachment. This is a very good sign that the 2 pieces were originally made for each other. The top portion of the stopper looks great with just a few minor scratches from being handled. The plug on the stopper looks very good, but under bright light I can see 3 eyebrow shaped bruises on the bottom beveled edge. I can only guess that these may be remnants of a possible touchup at one time to this edge. These small marks are in the glass and very hard to see normally. The decanter lip and top hole looks great. The handle is well attached with no heat checks or cracks. To be picky I'll mention a few minor scratches on the handle, but t is no damage whatsoever. If you look closely at the side of the decanter t are a few pinpoint sized nicks on the outside corners and a few minor scratches. The bottom has some more of these same tiny nicks and shows just a little expected wear. The interior is not perfect, but it is not bad at all. The whiteness that you see in my first 2 outside pictures is just reflection. The side portion of the interior looks absolutely fine. Near the outside edge of the bottom flat spot is a partial ring of mild white sickness. This is not severe by any means and can only be seen if you hold it up to the light and look from underneath. FINAL COMMENTS: If you have a yacht then this would be a great piece to own and keep on it. If not it is still a really cool piece to use or just for display with its shape that you rarely see. Don't let this hard to find piece pass you by too easily! BIDDING FORMAT: T is no reserve with a $9 starting price. This is my favorite way to sell even high-priced items. I will never under any conditions end my auctions early to sell to an anxious buyer requesting a buy it now. SHIPPING & INSURANCE: A flat rate for both shipping and insurance combined by USPS Priority Mail to anyw in the U.S.A. will be $12. I don't ship my cut glass outside of the U.S.A. AFTER SALE CHECKOUT: I DO NOT USE EBAY'S CHECKOUT. You will get an automatic email from me shortly after the auctions end. At the bottom is a link to a secure Vendio Checkout form. It will be much easier for both of us if you take a moment to fill it out with your payment intentions and you can print a receipt...
