YALE UNIVERSITY STERLING MEMORIAL LIBRARY ANTIQUE CARD CATALOG CABINET This antique library card catalog is a handsome piece of history from Sterling Memorial Library at Yale University, New Haven, CT.
This fine piece of furniture is a dark golden oak antique cabinet, with a great deal of character and age, a veritable tribute to the grand tradition and heritage of the world-renowned Ivy League university. The card catalog is bold, sturdy, and emanates a real sense of gravitas and academia -- gracing any room with its timeless elegance. A beautiful piece of furniture with a distinctive style that can literally be found now else! While other card catalogs are available on the internet for purchase, this rare specimen is a genuine relic from Yale University , a true piece of history from the majestic Sterling Memorial Library, and a timeless tribute to the intellectual tradition of the Ivy League. This is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime find , a must-have for any antique collector, alumnus, history buff, artist, or anyone interested in owning a functional and beautiful piece of heirloom furniture , available now else and never again! Sterling Memorial Library (Yale's flagship library) is undergoing major renovations, and a precious free-standing card catalog cabinet was removed. This rare, one-of-a-kind cabinet is now available for auction on eBay. Used to house the Subject cards for Sterling Memorial Library, the card catalog was an integral part of the Library's cataloging system for several decades , most likely dating back to the 1940s. (If you like, we can even provide you with a Certificate of Authencity certifying the true Yale University origin of this genuine library relic, a proof of its true historical significance.) Yet despite its age, the cabinet and its components are in very nice condition. The solid oak cabinet measures approximately 6' tall X 3' wide X 1.5' deep. It has brass hardware and two pull-out writing shelf-panels near the middle. The cabinet can also come apart into multiple, stackable sections, for easier storage/shipping, or even to rearrange the card catalog itself (e.g. make it shorter, break it up into separate units, etc.). The drawers can hold any type of item, but were originally meant to house 3" X 5" index cards. All drawers are accounted for and functional, and none are missing.
