Yamaha G-170A Classical Guitar w/Case***The hard to find "Master Model" G-170A!!!*** ***Stunning 6 Color Rosette – 5 Ply Bindings!! Bone Saddle and Nut!!*** ***NEW LOWER RESERVE! AND BUY IT NOW!!*** Before I describe my guitar let me tell you it is not from an Estate Sale, nor is it being offered to you by an antique dealer as a thrift store find. This is from my personal collection of vintage guitars. Hopefully I will answer all your questions whether you’re a beginner or a pro. If you’re a beginner print this auction and take it to someone you trust for verification. Now about the instrument…. I purchased this instrument for the same reasons you may be looking at this auction today. The reputation Yamaha has been around for many years and continues to grow, along with the interest in vintage guitars. This reputation however has spawned a ton of poor information, false claims and descriptions of “magical” perfect tone. Second, for many years while steel string players have bought the FG-series series guitars up in force, the nylon string counterparts while being the same high quality instruments have been in the shadows with very little information about them. You can now find all types of information on many of these models by going to the Yamaha archive page. Choose Acoustic Guitars: when you enter a model number DO NOT use dashes in the model numbers field. As a point of reference I compiled from Yamaha Corp the original prices for the lineup of Yamaha branded “G” series classics. - G40A $ 65.00 - G60A $ 75.00 - G80A $ 79.50 - G90A $ 99.50 - G100A $130.50 - G120A $142.50 - G170A $175.00 - G220A $261.00 - G280A $300.00 With the G170A as the third highest model in the list, it is outfitted with some of the premium features, and decorations you would expect. The back and sides are rosewood, with a double striped center seam and an inlaid mahogany center strip. The top is decorated with a stunning and exclusive sound hole Rosette. Often upper line models are noted by the use of pastels instead of the red/black/orange/yellow commonly used in basic models. I include a nice photo of this amazing tiled, design around the soundhole. The body bindings are 5-ply with multi colored decorative stripes. The traditional Yamaha headstock is dressed up with a rosewood overlay. Examine the pictures, its’ very nice as well. Now, about the Master Model designation…this guitar features a two piece tapered heel block and extension as shown. On hand built Spanish guitars a “foot” or curved extension of the heel block is used to maximize the contact area of the neck joint to the back of the guitar. This is supposed to add sustain, volume and neck joint integrity. On this guitar Yamaha crafted a two piece system. The higher priced G-220A and G-280A do not feature this neck style. It is actually borrowed from the Grand Concert series GC-3D model, and the only G series guitar to feature this neck construction. Among collectors these became known as Master Models due to the Spanish guitar Masters who invented this build feature. Nickel Plated Tuning Machines Bone Saddle and Nut Indian Rosewood Bridge and Fingerboard with Side Dot Markers. 658mm scale length, 2” width at the nut Action at the 12th fret 3.1mm S/N:T0065839 Cardboard Case Included Scale Length: You may have noticed above that this guitar has a scale length of 658mm. I think a brief explanation is called for just in case you’re not sure of the significance of this specification. The common scale length for a classical guitar is 650mm.
