Offered here is a very rare front die Long Island State Parkway Police badge from Nassau and Suffolk Long Island. The dept split up into the Long Island State Park Police and the New York State Police on Jan 1, 1979. I cannot validate the pedigree, but the front is exactly the same as the issue badge. I believe this badge was used by the many Part Time Summer Help officers they hired (mostly Long Island School Teachers) on summer break. This dept swelled by 100 or so officers every summer. The high number sort of validates that as the regular officer badges were numbered in the 100s. This dept was so tight with badges that officers used a standard New York State stock badge as a "second." The current New York State Police and New York State Park Police do not wear badges at all. I have been collecting over 40 years. I just obtained another LI State Parkway badge which affords me the opportunity to sell this one. I have only seen this one, and one other at a patch show in Mineola in 1988, and I still kick myself for not buying that one. It had a Leslie Edelman HM, so it was probably a 2nd. Anyway, any Long Island collector would like to add this, feel free to ask questions.
