UP FOR AUCTION: A silver plated three-piece "Youngster Set," with original presentation box, in the unique and stunningly beautiful flatware pattern FIRST LOVE , patented in 1937 by the International Silver Company under its 1847 Rogers Bros. back stamp. This hard-to-find set features a junior fork (6 1/4" long), a junior knife (7 1/4" long; hollow handle; stainless steel, modern-shape blade), and a junior spoon (5 3/4" long). The original presentation box is made of plastic or Lucite. The top is clear and features the embossed words "Youngster Set" and "1847 ROGERS BROS." The base is cobalt blue and has prongs to hold each of the flatware pieces. The box's dimensions: 7 3/4" long, by 3 ½" wide, by 1 1/8" deep. The FIRST LOVE Youngster Set is featured in Bones and Fisher's book. (Bones, F., and Fisher, L., " The Standard Encyclopedia of American Silverplated Flatware and Hollow Ware ," c. 1998, p. 200.) Youth flatware also is known as junior flatware or children's flatware. The youth forks, knives, and spoons sometimes identical to and/or are interchangeable with tea forks, knives, and spoons, and/or breakfast forks, knives, and spoons. Also, the youth spoon frequently is identical to the coffee spoon or 5:00 (five o'clock) spoon.
