This is a rare, near-mint ZENITH ROYAL 2000 AM-FM All Transistor Portable Radio . It was the first non-tube AM-FM portable radio made in the US. Zenith sold them from 1959 to 1964. In 1959 it sold for $190, which would be over $1,300 in today's dollars, so it was quite a premium radio. 's your chance to own possibly the best American radio ever made. This sample is in pristine condition-- it is absolutely excellent electronically and cosmetically. T is no pitting or rust in the chrome or aluminum trim. The black leattte case is shiny and unscratched. T are hardly any signs of wear on this nearly 50-year-old radio. (T is some yellowing-discoloration of the 3 white plastic knobs, which is normal,.) Reception is powerful , especially on AM, which is aided by an 8-inch ferrite bar antenna in the handle. FM is received by dual telescoping antennas, which are original and straight. The 2000 employs switchable FM AFC for frequency stability. The sound from the large internal oval speaker is hi-fi, full and warm. A Tone Control is provided. The Volume Control is not scratchy, tuning is smooth with dual AM/FM "Odometer-Tach"-like Tuning Dials. It uses EIGHT "D-Cell" batteries (not included) for a stated battery life of 300 hours. Even without batteries installed, this baby weighs in at 8 pounds. T is no corrosion in the battery case. It has jacks inside for an Earphone, and one for outputting the tuner signal to another amp. T is a full schematic printed on the inside of the back cover (see pix). Plus it comes with the Original Operating Guide. 8 pages, not a reproduction . Shipping is FREE (US sales only.)
