's an excellent example of a very historic radio. T were a few transistor radios prior to this Zenith, but none looked or sounded like the Zenith Royal 500 aka "owl". This radio had excellent sensitivity, plenty of volume, and a rather amazing tone for such a small set. It also had a nylon case, a great improvement on the polystyrene cases of its' peers! This one "isn't perfect, but is really nice". Overall looks are great. Knobs, estucheons, speaker grille, excellent. The bale handle does have some surface rust at the corners. Case very good. No scratches on face and sides. A few very minor scratches on the rear. The original advertising decal is still on the back. Chassis is all original, except for AF output cap, which appears to have been replaced. Serial number? (On battery compartment.) is 114428. T's also the number 112, 156 on the tuning cap. Battery compartment is excellent with no evidence of leakage. Decal on inside of battery door reads "Chassis 7ZT40Z1". All contacts A+. This radio works just fine and comes with a fresh set of Eveready alkalines. A great looking example of this set for your transistor radio collection. Fair starting bid and no reserve on this item.
