Reich Marshal Hermann W. Goring's CERTIFICATE OF ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF CONTRIBUTION (A PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION) TO A FUND FOR VICTIMS OF THE ZEPPELIN HINDENBURG CRASH SPRING 1937 A true luftschiff treasure & classic. And genuine, ORIGINAL rarity. In the spirit of the "Miracle at Echterdingen", the German public rallied after the Hindenburg disaster. The great outpouring of grief was accompanied by a great grass-roots philanthropy; from the far corners of the Reich, the people opened their pockets and purses to support the airship crew and their families. Goring, his name ever linked with the demolition of the GRAF ZEPPELIN and the airship sheds at Frankfurt, was actually one of the first German officials to convey his dismay over and sympathy for the loss of the Zeppelin Company's flagship. This Certificate of Acknowledgment is fully documented by John Duggan in two books, LZ 129 HINDENBURG: THE COMPLETE STORY and ZEPPELIN POST LZ 129 HINDENBURG. In the latter, the author-cataloger assigns a value 1,200 Euros (!) to this memorabilia. Duggan indicated that these were "signed" by Goring; I think he might have elaborated "signed in the plate" by the Reich Marshal. Sure looks like a facsimile signature to me. Letter-size (approx. 8 1/2 x 11") format. FINE-VERY CONDITION. Has a horizontal fold, as all such letters I have encountered (the example shown in Duggan's LZ 129 HINDENBURG ditto ... and that one has two punch holes). Goring sent these folded in envelopes. My sheet is about as fresh as they come: the heavier stock is toned a tad with a wee bit of flecking. My large scan should give you a true idea of the condition quality. Modest reserve on this one given rarity/sky-high catalogue value. ATTENTION: SENT PRIORITY INSURED IN PADDED BOX; FLAT FEE OF $7.50. Worldwide bidders please request shipping quote well before auction closing. Maine residents will add 5% sales tax to realization, thank you. Winning bidder please make payment within 5 business days.
