Album Album Album Zhamanshinite Impactite - Zhamanshin crater, Kazakhstan Weight = 41.0 grams ( 2 1/8 x 1 1/2 x 3/4 inches) ( 5.4 x 3.8 x 1.9 cm) Zhamanshinite is an impactite found at the Zhamanshin crater. The formation of this crater has been dated to approximately 900,000 years ago as a result of a high velocity impact with an extraterrestrial body. The crater measures 13 kilometers (8 miles) in diameter. The impact glass known as Irghizites have also been found at this crater and formed under very intense heat. It is believed that the Zhamanshinite formed in the cooler melt regions at the outer rim and did not retain a meteoritic component. This Zhamanshinite displays both the black impact glass and the yellowish foam silica. *** IMPORTANT - New Bidders Please Read Carefully before bidding!
