This auction is for an oustanding Zippo Barcroft table lighter. Zippo's Barcroft line of table lighters began production in 1939 and continued intermittently until 1979. There were four models:

1st The number "10" is 4.5 inches tall and has a one-step pedestal. It has a large insert and is prized by collectors.

2nd Produced only from 1947 to 1949, the second model "shrinks" to 4.25" tall but the pedestal gains a second step. The insert remains large.

3rd Produced from 1949 to 1953 the third model shrinks again to 3.25" but retains the large insert.

4th The fourth model stays 3.25" in height but now uses an insert the same as that used in a regular pocket Zippo. All Barcroft production ends in 1979.

This Zippo Barcoft cigarette lighter, a Model 4, commemorates the American Navy's submarine The USS Greenfish (SS 351). Launched in 1946 Greenfish was decommisioned in 1973 and transferred that year to Brazil. She was scrapped in 2001. Condition of the lighter is excellent and that includes the bright green "G" graphic. Interestingly, this lighter has graphics on both sides; uncommon in Barcroft lighters. The other graphic is of the submariner's patch or logo. The top closes with a satisfying Zippo "ker-chunk". The inside of the lid is stamped with the number 3. With flint and fluid the lighter should work. The classic style of this Barcroft will appeal to all.
