Presented is a very detailed Zsolnay Pec figurine of a shepherd and his dog. This is a hand painted and signed porcelain piece made during the Russian occupation of Hungary. The shepherd, seated on a sizable log is in traditional dress. He holds a flute, which he undoubtedly played during the long days and evenings of watching the flock of sheep. A shepherd's crook leans on the log between him and his faithful chestnut colored dog, which lays beside him, eyes staring up at his master. Please note the picture showing the back of the figurine. The cloak he wears is amazing in design. It is hand painted in colors of: tangarine, olive green and paprika and undoubtedly has it roots in Hungarian culture. The long draping sleeves of his robe, as well as the ankle length skirt gracefully cling to his body. It is made more realistic by the artist's shading. He wears a burnt orange vest, collared shirt and black tie with yellow trim. His black brimmed hat with feather is traditional during this time as is the long hair and full mustache. This is an exceptional piece depicting Hungarian history. It is in perfect condition and is about 9" high and 7" wide at the base. It weighs about 2lbs.
