Wonderful American Indian fetish representing a mated pair of wolf or fox by well-known fetish carver Jayne Quam. I bought this in a Santa Fe gallery five or six years ago and believe it is made of onyx. Very expressive faces with turquoise for eyes and a heishi bundle of shell and turquoise strapped around the trunks. I am categorizing this piece as Zuni as several Native American galleries carrying Ms. Quam's work do, though she is in fact Navajo; she is married to another well-known carver, Lynn Quam, who is Zuni. Zuni fetishes are intended to honor animal spirits and this piece very much captures the love and camaraderie of a loving pair. Beautiful striations to the onyx in graduating shades of very light red around the necks on through to caramel and brown. Size is 3.75 inches long, 1.5 inches wide. Artist's initials are etched into the front paws as seen in photo. Please e-mail any questions. Shipping USPS priority with delivery confirmation is $6. Thanks for looking at my Native American and Mexican collectibles auctions.
