Estate Sale Discovery! This miniature (1.5 ozs) Zwack Unicum Bitters Bottle is in excellent condition with original cork that reads, "Zwack." Upper label around neck is slightly worn from age. What is visible reads, "( something) Bros. & Co., Inc. New ( something )" "Unicum Bitters" ( something ) by proof 84% Fluid: 1.5 ozs." Front main label reads, "Unicum Zwack" with the Zwack Co. logo of a gold cross on a red circle. A small label on the back reads, "Made in Hungary, by J. Zwack and Co. Budapest" Embossed on the green bottle is "Zwack" and what looks like "JFSIARSAI" "Unicum Budapest" Bomb shaped bottle measures 3 inches tall and is about 2 inches wide. We have had a hard time dating this bottle, but 's what we do know: T is what appears to be a pontil at the base. T is a seam up the sides of the bottle, but no seam up to the top of the neck as far as we can see. Early advertisements for Zwack dating back to 1910 show a Unicum bottle with a twist off cap with cork attached to the inside of the cap. This cork does not appear to have been ever attached to a cap, making us think it dates to before 1910. It was found with other items that dated back to 1909 with printed dates, but we are not guaranteeing a date based on this. Zwack Unicum has been produced since 1790. It is considered the national drink of Hungary today.
