Recap: We first met Lt. Reichard in January, stationed at McClellan Air Base in Sacramento, where he was in charge of a motor pool unit. Expecting to be sent overseas, their orders were changed and they became restless to see action. Lt. Reichard’s sweetheart, Ginnie, would write frequently, and he would go to dinner and movies with local girls – Dorothy, in Sacramento, and Marie, when the unit moved to Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho. The men have spent their days in lectures, and physical demonstrations to try to keep sharp mentally and physically. But they are getting increasingly restless.

Saturday, February 27, 1943
Gowen Fieid, Boise, Idaho
This morning the inspection was as near perfect as any I’ve seen. Due to the fact that the men were at a party last night I put off the inspection until ten. Sgt. W ________ made the preliminary and he was told that everything we found that he overlooked would count as a gig against him which meant a restriction. He covered it pretty well so got off. After the inspection I drilled the men for about three quarters of an hour. I worked out some mass commands with them and they did pretty good. This afternoon we played baseball or rather that most of the boys did. Sgt. Eggleston and I went over to the gym and boxed. I’m getting so I can handle the gloves pretty well although I can’t last very long. This evening I picked up a couple enlargements that I had made from some pictures I took up in the mountains. They were beautiful. One thing is a cinch and that is I intend to have a good dark room set up when I go home because this camera bug has really got me and that camera of mine is a dream. I think I could make some money taking pictures of some of those old homes in Maryland and selling them to the owners.
