8-Year-Old WorthPoint Fan Gives Antique Valuations at the Topanga Vintage Market
ATLANTA – 8-year-old Connor McCrory, known as “America’s Youngest Picker,” will be giving free antiques and collectibles valuations using the WorthPoint Mobile App at the Topanga Vintage Market—home to more than 180 of Los Angeles’s top vintage vendors, plus art, crafts, music and food trucks—on April 27, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, Calif.
Connor has been using the WorthPoint app for several months to discern the value of antique and collectible items for both his personal shopping excursions and for his new business, Estate Sales by Conner. The 3rd-grader has been contracted to run two estate sales over the last six months, including one this last weekend in Shadow Hills, Calif., for an Emmy Award-nominated screenwriter. Connor was also recently featured on The Queen Latifah Show and on ABC7 News in Los Angeles.
“I love selling at the Topanga Vintage Market. There are a lot of nice people that come to buy and don’t haggle too badly,” Connor says. “Lori (Rotblatt) and Patrice (Curedale), who own the market, are very nice. They send people over to meet me and I sometimes give them appraisals on jewelry and vintage toys, especially Barbies.” Connor has already amassed a fairly extensive vintage Barbie collection.
Connor has been attending estate sales, flea markets and antique shows with his parents for several years, gaining knowledge and experience about the antiques trade beyond his years. He and his mother began selling at small booths in a few Los Angeles-area flea and antique markets but says he would not have been able to make such a huge step as opening his estate sales business without relying upon WorthPoint’s Worthopedia—the largest online price guide of more than 200 million sales records. Connor uses an iPad, given to him by WorthPoint founder and CEO Will Seippel, to identify and price the items in the estate through the WorthPoint mobile application.
The Topanga Vintage Market is held every fourth Sunday at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, Calif. The April 27 event will mark the Market’s second anniversary. Admission is $2 and children 12 and younger get in free.
“Connor is such an exceptional person. He has so much knowledge and poise at such a young age,” says Patrice Curedale, co-owner of the Topanga Vintage Market. “Connor and his mom, Aimee, have been selling at Topanga Vintage Market since last year. We are really excited that he will now offer our vintage shoppers free appraisals using the WorthPoint app. It’s a perfect blend of high-tech and antiques.”
