Rare 11 l/2" Antique German Kley & Hahn 536 Character Bisque Head Child

This wonderful and rare 11 1/2" antique German Character Child was made by the Kley & Hahn doll factory in Germany, circa 1905-10. She is from Kley & Hahn's special 500 series (which they made using Bahr & Proschild produced bisque heads), and she is marked "536 2/0" on the back of her head. She has a beautiful bisque head, that looks so much like a stoic little German child, on a fully-jointed composition body.

Both her head and body are in very good condition. We do want to mention that there is what looks like a raised area in the bisque next to the 536 marking on the back of her bisque head. After carefully examination there is an area at the back of the head due to the thickening of the bisque done during the firing and you can feel the raised area by rubbing your fingers over it. We have lighted her head and see no chips, cracks or hairlines.

The composition body still retains its original finish, down to the red detail finger painting, with only a few scratches on the right forearm. She has skillfully painted blue intaglio eyes with black pupils and white highlight dots. She has rosy nostril dots and rosy red lips that are slightly parted, revealing the tip of her darker red tongue.
