[Early Printing - Post-Incunabula - Germany - Cologne] [History of Medicine - Ancient Greek & Roman Medicine] [Physiotherapy] [Dietetics] Both works printed in Cologne (K�ln), 1526: 1st work printed by Gottfried Hittorp, 2nd work by Eucharius Cervicornus. Two books bound into one volume. Text in Latin (translated from Greek). A charming sammelband comprising TWO RARE POST-INCUNABLE EDITIONS OF CLASSICAL MEDICAL WORKS BY GALEN: 'On the Preservation of Health' and 'On Fevers'. These two works, which are bibliographically separate, and printed by different Cologne printers, are bound together in a superb Renaissance blindstamp pigskin binding with two intact clasps, and in a superb state of preservation! (It is interesting to note that these two editions are also bound together in the copy of Georgetown University Medical Center Library.) The first work De sanitate tuenda is a large treatise on hygiene, diet, regimen & exercise, and physiotherapy. "The present treatise on hygiene was one of the first Galenic translations by Thomas Linacre (1461-1524), the well known medical humanist of the Renaissance. Linacre made many excellent translations of the Greek works of Galen as well as Aristotle and Hippocrates.
