FIRST EDITION. Folio. pp. 312, (ff. xxvii, unnumbered), without final blank. Roman letter with Italic marginalia, woodcut of Du Choul’s arms on title within architectural block, two arabesque headpieces (Baudrier vol. IX p.66), two large historiated initials of birds by Georges Reverdy (Baudrier vol. IX p.61) and smaller foliated initials; five full page, fifteen half page, and twenty six smaller woodblock illustrations, with a further 554 woodcut medallions. Autograph and ownership inscription of a 18th century Irish owner of the work on fly with his occasional marginal annotations and underlinings. Light age yellowing, with occasional light mostly marginal spotting, and the odd marginal thumb mark, four leaves with small marginal oil spot. Generally a very good clean, fresh copy on thick paper in mid C17 French calf, covers double gilt ruled to a panel design “a la Duseuil”, spine with raised bands gilt in compartments, red morocco label gilt, small splits to joints, head and tail of spine and corners slightly worn, all edges red, combed marbled endpapers
