Free Shipping on Purchases of 5 or More Maps and Prints Title: Palatinatus Bavariae Description: It is an authentic 17th century copper engraved antique map with original antique handcoloring designed by Gerard Mercator and published by Jan Janssonius, better known as Jansson, (1588-1664). Jodocus Hondius, the elder, bought the Mercator plates in 1604 and they continued to be used and refined in various issues. Added to these were new maps gradually enlarging the Hondius Mercator Atlases to multi volume works. This map was published c. 1635, sometime after Jansonnius married into the Hondius business and assumed a larger role in the business after 1633, at which time his name began to appear more frequently in the place of Henricus Hondius, who took over in 1612 after his father Jodocus died. T are two inscriptions: "Per Gerandum Mercatorum com Privilegio" that acknowledges Mercator as the creator and "Apud Ioannem Iassonium" a latin spelling of Jan Janssonius. The maps and atlases were very popular at the time, published in various languages, including Latin as in this case, making it very difficult to put an exact date on loose maps.
