1705 De Fer Map/City Plan of Arras, France

1705 De Fer Map - Arras

Nicolas De Fer was the official geographer to the French king as well as being a successful publisher "dans l'Isle du Palais sur le Quay de l'Orloge a la Sphere royale' in Paris. Among his many atlases was his 'Introduction de la Fortification..' first issued in 1693 and showing the defensive sites of major European cities.

This plan of the town of Arras comes from a 1705 issue of that atlas. There is fine detail to the fortifications of the city and citadel, rivers and roads are illustrated, and there is a description of the town in the cartouche, and a scale of distance.

The map measures 8" by 11", has hand colouring, and is in very good condition.

The map is guaranteed to be over 300 years old.
