J.N. Bellin was one of the most successful cartographers of all time. As the the French Navy's hydrographer and chartmaker he had access to the finest information available to any mapmaker and used this to publish a large variety of atlases including 'Petit Atlas Maritime' as well as his contribution to L'Abbe Prevost's 'Histoire Generale des Voyages'. This map comes from a 1757 edition of 'Histoire Generale..'.

This interesting map of the La Plata river, shows the cities of Buenos Aires and Colonie du S. Sacrement (Uruguay), as well as several other villages and forts. The map has nautical information with detail to the coastline, sand banks, rocks, bays and points of anchorage. The map has a large decorative title cartouche with a scale of distance.

The map measures 11" by 7" with several folds (as issued), has outline hand colouring, and is in good condition with a little staining to the top right blank margin.

The map is guaranteed to be over 250 years old.
