1765 Set of 8 Folio Engravings - TURKISH RUG MAKING - Diderot's Encyclopaedia

The complete set of eight beautiful folio pages of engravings (two double-page) entitled "Tapis de Turquie" which were illustrations to Diderot's Encyclopedia published in Paris between 1751 and 1765 - see below

Individual pages feature the following illustrations:

Plate 1 - (double page) - The workshop, looms and tools

Plate II - (double page) - Loom and foot pedal structure

Plate III - Loom and rollers

Plate IV - Artisan setting up the warp structure

Plate V - Ladies department, weaving operations

Plate VI - Bobbins, spools and rollers

Plate VII - Tying off the carpet design

Plate VIII - Trimming off the threads

Fine condition with one or two minor spots to the wide borders - see scans. Beautiful hand-laid paper untrimmed to the edges. Page size 11 x 17 inches - double pages 22 x 17 inches with central folds as issued.

This set is usually sold as individual plates and is rarely found complete. Another set with accompanying text is offered on the internet for 800 pounds - see below
