This is a very nice late 1800's or very early 1900's school bell. It is only 5 1/4 inches tall but is very well made. Used in a one room schoolhouse to call order to the class. Too small to be used to call them in from recess. However, made just like the large ones and sometimes huge ones. High quality brass bell with original clapper. Black enamel wooden handle with original tightening finial at top. Great sound. Rare is this small size. Excellent condition with no cracks. Show medium use. One-room school One-room schools were commonplace throughout rural portions of various countries including the United States , Canada , Australia , New Zealand , United Kingdom and Ireland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
